About
The Pop-Up Zebra uses five people to temporarily lay down a high-visibility crosswalk during pedestrian crossing cycles, spotlighting city neglect while keeping everyone safe and traffic moving.
How It Works
The Materials: Five 6-foot rolls of white rubber mats (or heavy white canvas) painted to look like standard crosswalk stripes, plus two portable traffic cones.
The Action: Whenever pedestrians wait to cross, four team members step out when traffic stops and unroll the white stripes across the lane.
The Escort: The fifth person stands at the curb holding two orange traffic cones and a sign that reads: "If the city won't paint it, we will." They safely escort pedestrians across the makeshift walkway.
The Reset: Before the light changes or cars proceed, all four members roll up the stripes and step back onto the sidewalk, leaving zero property damage, trash, or traffic delay
